Maybe someone you know, love or respect has a Nissan Altima and they constantly remind you about how safe it is, but you're still not sure if it's for you. You've always driven such-and-such a brand and aren't sure if you want to switch. However, it's come to the point where you do need a new car. And then you remember that last conversation you had with your family or friend that owns a Nissan Altima. And maybe they took you for a joy ride and you remember how much you enjoyed the smooth ride. That fond memory now has you really thinking about the new 2019 Nissan Altima. You've decided to give it a shot. But first, you want a better idea of what specific safety features it has, and if it meets some of your other "new car requirements." Well, you're not alone. Many car buyers have a long list of requirements that their next purchase must have, and at the top of that list is safety features.

What are some common vehicle requirements?
The two biggest factors are price and safety, and some people will have a longer list than just those two items. Those requirements might include fuel efficiency, an infotainment system, and how comfortable the vehicle is.
No matter who the driver is or what the main purpose of their vehicle is, there is one thing they all want and that is safety. They simply want a car that can get them from A to B safely, without having to worry, "what if I get in an accident? Will I be okay?"
They want to have peace of mind when they pull out onto the road. Now you just need to know how safe the 2019 Altima is, and does it give you that peace of mind.

Thankfully, Nissan is at the forefront when it comes to vehicle safety technology. One of the biggest safety features it has is the Lane Departure Warning.

What is Lane Departure Warning (LDW)?
The LDW is a system designed to warn you when your Altima is going out of its current lane. The system is automatically activated when your sedan reaches a minimum speed of 45 MPH. It works by using a front facing camera, which is installed on the back of the rear-view mirror.
The system works by detecting the markings for the lane you're currently in. Then, when your vehicle starts to drift outside of the lane markings, it will give you a warning. And just in case you don't see the warning, the steering wheel will also vibrate to alert you. This warning does not go off when you use your turn signal.

Although this is a wonderful feature that works in real time and can potentially save you from an accident, it's important to remember that you should always pay attention to the road. Fully relying on the system can lead to serious injury.
Some scenarios where the LDW system might not be as reliable include bad weather and poor or no lane marks. Another scenario is tailgating, (which you shouldn't be doing anyway!), which will block the lane markings from your camera and render the system useless.
When car shopping, there are a plethora of options when it comes to vehicle customization. However, consumers realize that there is one thing they can't sacrifice on, and that is safety. The 2019 Nissan Altima is one of the safest vehicles on the road, thanks to the latest safety systems it has.
